Composition
Put simply, composition is how the elements of a photo are arranged. It's how the artist puts those things within a frame that help a photograph become more or less interesting to the viewer. A good photography will take many different parts and combine them into an aesthetically pleasing whole.

Sebastian Magnin
I like Sebastian's work because it looks like you can see through the ground. In these examples of his work he uses a tree in the mirror. He uses a mirror to reflect the tree above him but does not get the camera or himself in the shot.

WWW: In my photos I think I could have maybe taken them from a different angle to show more of what was in the mirror. Although I think mine are very unique as they are not all about nature and I also have things that I placed in the shot. Overall I think that I did well and I tried my best.
EBI: I think the photos would be better if I was able to retake them at home where there are other things other than nature to take photos of. |

WWW: I think that the photos that I took at home are better than the ones that I took at school because I feel like there was more to take pictures of and I felt like I could show more than just nature. Because at school there was nothing original and unique to take a picture of but at home there were lots more and I could go out of the house and take photos of things that weren't at home or school.

Andy Yeung
Andy Yeung discovered a new passion for aerial photography. He put together several aerial series including urban jungle, which attracted international attention. He is trying to create 360 degree photos. He frames his photos by finding a tall building and then points his camera straight but getting only some of the building is the photo. After that he put the photo on photoshop and reflected the photo in each corner to create these photos. The reflections are cool because the clouds can make a little pattern or image in the sky when you put the photo tougher. I like them because they look so interesting and they look very pretty. I would like to see some of these photos in real life.

Romain Jacquet Lagreze
Romain Jacquet Lagreze was born in France in 1987 This young visual artists' passion for photography arose after his arrival in Hong Kong in 2008. He makes these photos to show us how nature is taking back the land that we took away. Before we developed this planet.

In these photos I walked around the school and looked for where nature is taking over where we have built as humans. I find this very interesting because it is nice to see how we build but then nature fights back to cover where we have built. In the slide show there are the photos that I think are not the best but still look good. The three below are my three best photos that I took in school.

These photos show how nature is taking over the things we have built. I went to this place in Muswell hill called Parklands Walk and I took some photos there because it is an abandoned railway and there is a bridge with overgrown ivy on the fence of the bridge as shown in the photos below. I have photographed where vegetation grows on brick work, buildings and fences.

Over the summer holiday I went to Scotland and I saw this castle in a guide book. I searched it up and people say that it is fenced off. Some people made a whole in the fence and we found it and entered through it. It was really unique and very unspoilt. We went twice, one in the day and one at night. I found that at night you could not see much as there were trees growing inside the castle, but during the day we saw a lot more.

WWW: Overall I really enjoyed this project because I really enjoyed going out and taking photos of buildings and areas that have been taken over by nature on what we as humans have built. It made me see how old our world is and how long we have actually been alive for.
EBI: I think this would look better if there were more modern buildings around it

Matt Barnes
Matt Barnes is a London-based photographer. He takes pictures of petrol station at night with the lights and nothing else the back ground is black to bring out the lights and colours of the petrol station.
Tokihiro Sato
Tokihiro was born on the 13th September 1957. He takes photos of light using long exposures. This is called light drawing. The reason why I picked this is because i love the process that you need to do, to create these photos. For these photos you need to set up a long exposure and draw with a torch.
Evol
Evol is based in Berlin Germany. Evol is best known for his transforming of everyday features of our cityscape into miniature concrete tower blocks through the medium of paint.
Christoffer Relander
Born in 1986 in a small town of Ekenäs located in Finland. I like his work because it looks like very nice because he takes someone's face and then turns their face using plants and other meterials.
My response to Tokihiro Sato
|
I think that these photos are a bit basic and not very unique, so I went to an overpass and took some photos there. Some of these photos are too exposed and are too bright this showed me that I should take them at night where there would be no natural light, so that the torch light would stand out. So I tried it out and I seemed to work so then I started to move in different ways with the torch to create different patterns.

Independent development (Development 1)
|
In these photos I have used two different sources of light. I have used a torch and my phone. The colourful lights are my phone and the white lights are a torch. I chose to use a torch because it is more like Tokihiro Sato work. But I used my phone to make the colourful lights to make it look different and also to experiment to see what it would look like.
|
In these two photos I used a string to hold my phone which was making the colourful lights. But because I used a piece of string I could not control where the phone was going and the speed, so it was moving too fast and was spinning around this meant that the lights were not in line, they were patchy and was not very bright either.

Development 2 of long exposure of cars from a bridge
|
I think these are better because they are more unique to look at. Yes his work takes a lot longer to do because he went from one little island to another and shines a torch there but these are more simple, fun to make and different from his work. As I learnt from the previous development, it is better to take them at night when it is very dark outside than during the day because the lights that are used are more visible at night than in the day and it makes the photo look a lot better.
|
Development 3 long exposures of car lights on the ground
|
In this photoshoot I chose to do the photos on the ground next to the car because I thought it would be better. I think these photos are better than the ones on the bridge because you can see a nicer background and you see the different lights, for example the lights on a bus, a bus has lights higher than the headlights so there were different levels of lights. But if I was on the bridge then you would see the lights at one level.
|
Development 4 here are some that I tried to use zoom
|
These photos are the same as the motorway but these have a very nice background and are at a different level. These are at car level, but the motorway ones were taken from up high on an overpass so you would see the lights flat. But these photos are not only taken on the ground but also during the exposure I also zoomed in which did not work for all of them although there is one which is my favorite which is the one below.
|
Development 5 Here are some photos of the london eye with a zoom in effect
|
Because the car zooming in did not work I then thought of doing the London eye so I experimented and it seemed to work very well in my opinion. As a result of this experiment working I took more photos. I found out that if you zoom in more, the lights are longer so I tried zooming in by different amounts, as you can see in the slide show you can see some photos with long lights and some with short lights. I think that the longer lights look better, than the shorter ones because it stands out more to the eye.

Final pieces
Evaluation
For this course work I picked Tokihiro Sato because his light work is very unique compared to other photographers because he is not just taking a photo of nature, buildings, people, etc. His photos take a long time to do and take a lot of effort. In this course work I learned how to do long exposures properly and very well. While I was producing them I thought that it is better to zoom in and to take long exposures at night for the light to really stand out. Next time I will zoom in slower to get brighter lines .I like my photos because I have never done this before so for the first time I think I did very well.
